With all the trade hype in Toronto surrounding Roy Halladay and the Blue Jays, it was the city's NBA franchise that ended up making a move on Wednesday. The Raptors traded Devean George to Golden State for Italian guard Marco Belinelli, according to a report from Yahoo Sports.
Toronto general manager Bryan Colangelo purportedly was a fan of Belinelli's leading up to the 2007 NBA draft, but he was unable to do anything about it, as the Raptors had traded away all their picks that year. The Warriors nabbed him with the 18th overall selection, and after spending most of his rookie season on the bench, the 6-foot-5 native of Bologna averaged 8.9 points, 1.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 42 games for Golden State in 2008-09.
He will join countryman Andrea Bargnani on the Raptors' roster, as well as fellow Europeans Hedo Turkoglu and Jose Calderon.
Meanwhile, George goes to the Warriors after being traded for the second time this offseason — the first being the sign-and-trade deal that sent Shawn Marion to the Mavericks. George averaged 3.4 points and 1.8 rebounds with Dallas last season.
