Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli announced Friday that the club has signed Julien to a multiyear contract extension. Per club policy, terms of the deal will not be disclosed.
Last season Julien led the Bruins to the best record in the Eastern Conference, finishing 53-19-10 for 116 points. He was the winner of the 2009 Jack Adams Award, awarded “to the head coach who has contributed the most to his team’s success,” becoming the third head coach in Bruins history to capture the award.
In two seasons under Julien, the Bruins have reached the postseason twice, including their first Eastern Conference semifinals appearance since 1999.
Julien was named the 28th head coach in team history on June 21, 2007 after spending the previous 10 years coaching at the junior, AHL and NHL levels. He has coached 402 games for the Bruins, Montreal Canadiens and New Jersey Devils in his NHL career, posting a 213-134-10-45 record (.598 win percentage).
