BOSTON — Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo is pushing for an annual outdoor Boston Bruins game.

DeLeo, pointing to the success of the recent Winter Classic between the Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers at Fenway Park, sent a letter National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman asking for a permanent, annual outdoor Bruins hockey game in the Greater Boston area.

The Winthrop Democrat said an annual outside game could help solidify the league's base in the area and help ensure a healthy future for the game.

DeLeo said the event, which drew a sellout crowd of more than 38,000, was an economic boon in the midst of an economic slump.

The Bruins beats the Flyers 2-1 on an overtime goal.
