At Launch of Jeter Jordan Throwback, Derek Jeter Says He'd Like to Emulate Michael Jordan Michael Jordan must think pretty highly of Yankees captain Derek Jeter. After all, His Airness doesn’t go about letting just any athlete hop aboard the Air Jordan line of shoes.

While the two premiere athletes obviously respect each other, Jeter said he’d like to further emulate Jordan by one day owning a professional sports franchise.

“I’m happy for him,” Jeter told The Associated Press on Friday, regarding Jordan’s recently purchased majority ownership of the NBA’s Charlotte Bobcats. “I know it’s something he’s wanted to do for quite some time. … Not too many former players get an opportunity to be an owner. It’s something I’d like to do as well.”

Jeter spoke at an event celebrating the launch of his newest shoe — the Jordan Jeter Throwback. The shoe will go on sale in April and will cost $100. It “is designed to celebrate nine defining moments of his career, including his first World Series, first All-Star Game MVP award and passing Lou Gehrig to become the Yankees’ all-time hits leader.”
