Red Sox Wearing Green Uniforms, Green Hats in Honor of St. Patrick’s Day

The Red Sox are wearing green uniforms and matching green hats for Wednesday's afternoon game against the Mets in their annual St. Patrick's Day spring training contest.

On St. Patrick's Day in 2004, the Red Sox wore green jerseys for the first time in team history when they took on the Indians on at Fort Myers. 

"We want to start a new tradition," Mike Dee told redsoxjersey.net in 2004. Dee was the executive vice president of business affairs for the Red Sox at the time. "Obviously, St. Patrick's Day in Boston means a lot more than it does in most places and we think it's a nice way for the Red Sox to join in that celebration, albeit in Fort Myers."

In spring training last year, the Red Sox wore white uniforms with green lettering and green hats.
