The Patriots will add DL to their defensive line next season.

Free-agent defensive tackle Damione Lewis reached an agreement with the Patriots on Friday, ESPN.com reports. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The nine-year veteran spent the last five seasons with the Carolina Panthers before being cut last month. A former first-round pick, Lewis started every game with Carolina last season, and has recorded 245 tackles and 22 1/2 sacks in 131 career games.

The 6-foot-2, 301-pound Lewis gives the Patriots another run-stuffer to pair with Vince Wilfork on the defensive line. In addition, Lewis will help New England replace defensive end Jarvis Green, who signed with the Denver Broncos.

According to ESPN.com, Lewis likely will earn a salary similar to the $755,000 he was supposed to make with the Panthers before his release.
