Jacoby Ellsbury went 1-for-3 in a rehab assignment with the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox on Monday, scoring two runs.
The speedster admitted that his four cracked ribs, suffered in a collision with Adrian Beltre on April 11, will linger for the rest of the year.
“Going into the offseason, it’ll probably heal up,” Ellsbury told NESN’s Heidi Watney on Monster Monday. “I’ll have to deal with it.”
Despite the injury interfering with Ellsbury’s return, he feels he has stayed in shape despite being unable to do any upper-body work.
“As far as running, throwing, doing what I could in the game, I’ve stayed pretty in shape,” he added.
Ellsbury will play the outfield on Tuesday for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs and then will return to Fenway Park for an evaluation.
