The team is on the road, but on Wednesday at Fenway Park, there was plenty to celebrate.
The team unveiled a statue outside the ballpark featuring four of the most beloved teammates in Red Sox history: Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams, Bobby Doerr and Dom DiMaggio.
The statue is located outside Gate B and is based on David Halberstam‘s book, The Teammates.
“The statue itself is beautiful, and I think people are going to enjoy it for ages,” said team president and CEO Larry Lucchino. “It’s a symbol of all they represented.”
John Henry believes the statue serves as a reminder of a time in which the franchise was at its best.
“It connotes the lifelong friendship of this great players, and they epitomized what was right with this franchise in the ’40s and ’50s,” he said.
