Victory came with a price for Carl Edwards last Saturday.
Edwards and Brad Keselowski were both handed punishments for their actions near the end of the Nationwide race at Gateway International Speedway. Edwards will be docked 60 driver points, fined $25,000 and placed on NASCAR probation for the rest of the year. Keselowski also was placed on probation for the remainder of the season.
The punishments were in response to Edwards’ intentional wrecking of Keselowski on the final lap of the race coming out of the last turn.
Edwards and Keselowski already had mixed it up earlier during the final lap. Keselowski nudged Edwards out of the way for the lead, and that led to Edwards returning the favor near the end of the lap.
"As with all NASCAR actions of this nature, we will internally evaluate the penalties, and the underlying explanations, prior to making any decision about next steps," said Geoff Smith, Roush Fenway president. "We look forward to watching Carl and Brad as they continue to compete on a weekly basis for the championship in the Nationwide Series."
Roush Fenway team owner Jack Roush also was docked 60 championship points.
Edwards went on to win his second race of the season. He still sits in second place in the Nationwide Series standings, 168 points behind Keselowski.
