Sometimes speaking your mind isn’t the best idea, especially on live TV.

ESPN analyst Rusty Wallace apologized for insulting driver Kyle Busch after Busch’s Nationwide Series victory at Chicagoland Speedway on Friday and will not be suspended by the network, SceneDaily.com reports.

In a postrace interview, Busch commented on the fans’ negative reaction to his win, to which Wallace could be heard saying "dumbass" at the end of the broadcast.

Wallace issued a statement of apology on Monday through ESPN.

"At the end of Friday night’s telecast, I made an unfortunate remark regarding Kyle Busch," Wallace said. "There’s no excuse, and I certainly know better. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to everyone, including Kyle, for my mistake."

ESPN commented in the statement that the network "has spoken to Rusty and he understands his remarks were uncalled for."

Wallace won the NASCAR Cup in 1989. His company, Rusty Wallace Inc., fields cars in the Nationwide Series for driver Brendan Gaughan and his son, Steve Wallace.
