Salem Red Sox Rained Out in Futures at Fenway Finale 4:15 p.m.: The Salem Red Sox and Potomac Nationals will officially not be playing at Fenway Park today.

The game has been cancelled due to poor field conditions, thanks to the hour-plus thunderstorm that started about two hours ago.

Fans are encouraged to hold onto their ticket stubs. Those who do may receive discounts on next year's Futures at Fenway doubleheader.

2:33 p.m.: The Lowell-Jamestown game has been officially called due to rain.

Jamestown picked up a 7-2 win.

There's still no word on whether or not the Salem-Potomac game will take place, but the rain is coming down very hard right now.

More information to come.

1:56 p.m.: It's raining, it's pouring and, consequently, the old man is snoring.

Actually, that's the understatement of the day.

There is thick, white hail coming down at Fenway Park, and the crowd is heading for the hills (or in this case, underneath the grandstand).

The Lowell-Jamestown game has been delayed, and the grounds crew is putting tarp on the field.

1:45 p.m.: We have an official scouting report on Salem starter Brock Huntzinger.

According to Salem radio broadcaster Evan Lepler, Huntzinger throws a lot of strikes, relying heavily on his two-seam fastball and offspeed stuff.

Sounds a lot like a former Red Sox legend. Derek Lowe, anyone?

1:40 p.m.: The Fenway faithful are going to get a treat during the Salem-Potomac game.

Salem right-hander Brock Huntzinger will oppose Potomac righty Brad Peacock in the second game of the Futures at Fenway series.

Huntzinger is 6-4 with a 3.49 ERA for Salem this year. The 22 year-old was picked by the Red Sox in the third round of the 2007 MLB draft.

A fairly heavy rain is starting to fall, but everyone is still having a good time.

There's a pretty good crowd taking in the Lowell-Jamestown game right now, and it's a real family atmosphere here at Fenway Park.

Once again, the Salem-Potomac game will start approximately one hour after the finale of the Lowell game.

12 p.m.: The first game of the Futures at Fenway series is about to get started, as the Lowell Spinners get set to take on the Jamestown Jammers.

You can follow all the action in the Lowell game in Kristian Limas' live blog.

The Salem-Potomac game will get underway approximately one hour after the conclusion of the Lowell-Jamestown contest.

9 a.m.: What do Tim Wakefield, Cardinals All-Star outfielder Matt Holliday, 2002 NL Rookie of the Year Jason Jennings and 1997 NL MVP Larry Walker all have in common?

They all played for what is now known as the Salem Red Sox in the Carolina League.

Bought by the Fenway Sports Group in December 2007, Salem had many big league affiliations in its tenure before being part of the Red Sox organization.

On Saturday afternoon, these future stars will get a crack at playing on the big-boy field, as the Salem Red Sox take on the Potomac Nationals in Game 2 of the "Futures at Fenway" series.

One player to keep an eye on is fireballer Stolmy Pimentel. A Dominican right-hander who the Red Sox signed as a 16-year-old international free agent in July 2006, Pimentel was the only Red Sox minor leaguer selected to the MLB XM Futures All-Star Game on July 11 at Angel Stadium.

We’ll highlight more future Sox players to look out for on Saturday as the day progresses.
