Landon Donovan sure is popular, but the Galaxy would need a big incentive to let him go.

Tom Payne, the Galaxy’s president of business operations, told Yahoo Sports that several soccer clubs have approached the team about Donovan.

Despite Donovan’s importance to the Galaxy, Payne didn’t rule out the possibility of the soccer star changing clubs.

"You always want to keep your best players," Payne said. "But the reality is that the best players in the history of the sport have been moved. Of course there are numbers so silly, for want of a better word, that we would have to look at [offers] twice."

The richest club in the world, Manchester City, may be willing to offer a ‘silly’ number, as head coach Roberto Mancini confirmed interest in Donovan last week.

Donovan scored the tying goal in the 90th minute of a 2-2 tie with the San Jose Earthquakes on Thursday. The Galaxy (12-2-4) are currently at the top of the MLS’s Western Conference going into the All-Star break.

With Donovan still on the team, L.A. keeps America’s most popular soccer player, and one of the sport’s finest. Without him, they can gain a huge sum of money as compensation.

Either way, the Galaxy is in good shape.
