Orioles Limp Into July as Luke Scott Tops David Ortiz for Longest Home Run Trot The Baltimore Orioles finally won a game. But it came at the expense of their designated hitter.

Luke Scott launched a home run to break a tie in the seventh inning on Wednesday night, but after he made contact, he wasn’t sure it would clear the wall. Running hard to first, Scott came up gimpy as he rounded the bag while the ball sailed over the fence.

It appeared he could fight through what has been diagnosed a pulled hamstring, but Scott gingerly jogged to third and stood on the base for a moment, and then simply walked the final length to home plate. His round-tripper took 35.76 seconds, over five seconds longer than David Ortiz‘s infamous slow home run trot in May.

Scott is already on the DL, and the Orioles are still the worst team in baseball. Injury to insult.

Quote of the Day

“As I sit before all of you, I am very ashamed and embarrassed by my actions. I let this university down, I let my family down, I let the Bulldog nation down. I believe my actions have put a black cloud over our program. I never thought I would bring so much shame to this storied university.”
Damon Evans, athletic director for the University of Georgia, in a statement concerning his DUI arrest on Wednesday night

Comment of the Day

Somehow, what every member of Red Sox Nation is currently thinking was expressed so succinctly.

“Okay, okay don’t panic. So we don’t have a catcher or 2nd baseman or a center fielder or a left fielder our “ace” is on the dl and our bullpen is in a shambles. Other than that everything is fine right? Right? Okay, on second thought, PANIC.”

It isn’t often a sequel is just as good as the original. It is in the case of Old Spice commercials, though.
