The secret to Germany’s run in this year’s World Cup may not be the play of Thomas Muller, Miroslav Klose, or Mesut Ozil, but a giant octopus named Paul.

According to Sports Untapped, he English-born cephalopod who resides at Sea Life Aquarium in
Oberhausen, Germany, makes picks on Germany’s matches by eating a
mollusk out of one of two flag-labeled plastic containers in its tank.

The octopus has become somewhat of a folk hero as he has compiled a perfect record in predictions so far. As you can see, Paul picked the German mollusk over the Argentine one for his snack.

Paul has yet to make a pick for Germany’s semifinal matchup against Spain.
