Jets fans are likely chanting a four-letter word these days, and it's not J-E-T-S.
The Darrelle Revis saga is only getting worse as team owner Woody Johnson hit the airwaves with inside information that Revis' agent is calling "a blatant lie."
"Absolutely," Johnson told 1050 ESPN Radio when asked if he would talk to Revis himself. "I’ve agreed to do that. I’ve told Darrelle I’d do that. We asked, through his agents, that I would and Rex [Ryan] would have gone to that meeting if that was something Darrelle wanted.
"We were rebuffed on that. [Revis’ agents] thought it was better that we meet and talk about this so-called new proposal without me or Rex present."
So Revis is the bad guy, right? Wrong, according to his agent.
"Mike [Tannenbaum, Jets GM] never, ever, ever, ever offered Mr. Johnson to come to that meeting," Neil Schwartz told the New York Post. "That’s a blatant lie that Mr. Johnson was offered to come to that meeting — a blatant lie. That was never, ever, ever offered.
"I would meet with Mr. Johnson anywhere, any place, any time," Schwartz went on. "I’d love to talk to Mr. Johnson, but I don’t have his cell number. Why would I have insisted to Mike that that proposal go to Mr. Johnson and not want him in the meeting?"
So what's the hold up? It appears that Tannenbaum is clogging talks between Johnson and Team Revis. According to Tannenbaum, that's not the case
"[Schwartz] came to me and said they wanted to set up a meeting, that they had some new things to go over," Tannenbaum told the Post. "I asked if they wanted me to bring Woody so he could meet with Darrelle. [Schwartz] said, 'No, this is more of a technical issue so it would be better if just you and Ari [Nissim, Jets director of football administration] came.
"The offer still stands that Woody will meet with Darrelle if they want."
So while this he-said-she-said slap fight rages on in New Jersey, the game's top defender sits at home as his teammates prepare for the season. At least they're still stealing headlines from the Giants.
