Sometimes, all it takes is a few incredible catches to go from average outfielder to being remembered as one of the game’s best.
Willie Mays, and his incredible catch in the 1954 World Series, may go down as the greatest defensive outfielder of them all, but who can forget other outfielders like Jim Edmonds, Ken Griffey Jr. and Roberto Clemente?
Then there are outfielders who will be remembered for nothing more than the nine seconds it took them to spin out one of the most ridiculously dazzling plays the sport has ever seen. Masato Akamatsu may fall into this category.
The Hiroshima Carp (of Nippon Professional Baseball) outfielder robbed Yokohama Bay Stars slugger Shuichi Murata with what can only be described as a Spider-Man catch on top of the left-center field wall.
