Red Sox infielder Jed Lowrie was pretty certain that he'd be healthy and back in the majors at some point, but there was also that small bit of doubt.
That doubt is long gone now though as Lowrie is finally healthy after a wrist injury and a bout with mono and is contributing down the stretch for a Red Sox team that is in the middle of a pennant race.
While Lowrie is making the most of his return, the road back wasn't a smooth one. In the midst of rehabbing the wrist injury, he came down with mono before the start of the season and took a discouragingly long time to improve.
"It was particularly challenging," Lowrie said in regards to the length of his sickness. "I couldn't really do anything about it. It's one of those things you that you don't really know how long it's going to take."
The fact that he happened to be going through all of this at a time when the Red Sox as a team were struggling to stay healthy made it that much tougher.
"My health wasn't great, it was kind of in jeopardy," he told NESN's Tom Caron on Red Sox Monster Monday. "To see that on top, it kind of added a little more stress to the situation."
Check out the video below to hear more from Lowrie on his comeback and what it's like to be apart of this Red Sox team.
