Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis is trying to remain positive amid the grim outlook of his hand injury.
Youkilis is still mystified as to what the exact problem is, and what the recovery process and schedule will be. Though he’s angry he can’t be on the field with his team helping them to the postseason, he is glad that he is not suffering any further damage.
“If you can’t play baseball it sucks,” Youkilis stated bluntly after the game on Tuesday. “I’m here to help the team win. I tried to express [the desire to play] but the team is also looking out for the interest of myself and the team down the road.”
Youkilis has been battling this injury for a while, as it was bothering him during the road trip out west in Seattle and Anaheim. He was trying to play through the pain, but the aggravation caused during Monday’s game against the Indians was too much for the muscle.
