While injuries have obviously played a major role in the Red Sox' struggles, the team would be in first place if they had lost only 8 games to the Indians, Royals, Mariners and Orioles instead of 15.

With the Orioles and Mariners upcoming as opponents, Boston must be mentally prepared to play against clubs with nothing to lose.
