Report: Red Sox, Angels Can’t Come to Agreement in Deal for Mike Napoli

The Red Sox and Angels could not work out a deal for catcher Mike Napoli after Boston claimed him on waivers last week.

The Sox were awarded the waiver claim for the 28-year-old, but could not come to terms on a deal with the Angels according to WEEI.com

According to a source, the Halos were "not really looking to move" Napoli. The Angels probably figure that if they revisit moving Napoli in the offseason they'll be able to involve more teams in the process.

It's possible that the Red Sox made the claim knowing this, but did so only to block the Rays from acquiring Napoli.
