Despite an early lead, Maine’s Little League state champions fell to Vermont in tournament action on Tuesday.
Maine’s Nick Moore hit a grand slam early to put Bangor East up 5-1. But Vermont battled back, and by the bottom of the fifth inning, Shelburne led 6-5.
Maine gave up a total of seven unanswered runs in the game, losing 8-5 to Vermont and dropping to 1-3 in the tournament.
Vermont improved to 1-2 and will play New Hampshire on Wednesday at 10 a.m. The game will air on NESN.
