It’s not surprising that the UFL is popular (Americans do love their football), but nobody — not even team executives — would have expected that the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League would sell out the stadium for the team’s first ever game.

The Nighthawks announced on Tuesday that they have sold all 24,000 tickets for their first home game against the Hartford Colonials on Friday, Sept. 24, at Rosenblatt Stadium.

“We were assured when we first considered Omaha as an expansion market that there would be an unrivaled passion for our team, but the reaction to the Nighthawks has surpassed all our expectations,” said UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue. “The enthusiasm from fans who have bought season tickets in the thousands and the community’s support for the Nighthawks is overwhelming.  I look forward to witnessing the buzz of excitement when the game kicks off on Friday night.”

The Nighthawks’ roster includes some of the bigger names in the league, including quarterback Jeff Garcia, running backs Ahman Green and Maurice Clarett, defensive end Charles Grant and linebacker Cato June.
