Devils left winger Zach Parise suffered what the team is calling a “lower body injury” late during the second period of the team’s 3-1 loss to the Kings on Sunday.

Parise initially appeared to suffer the injury after colliding with Kings forward Kyle Clifford, but later told NorthJersey.com that the injury has been bothering him for quite some time. He’s scheduled to consult with doctors on Monday.

“I hurt it in August and it’s been bothering me,” Parise said.  “It hasn’t gone away. I kind of hurt it every game.”

“I’m trying right now to not get too emotional about it. There’s no reason to until you find out exactly what is wrong.”

Parise led the Devils with 38 goals last season, and has averaged almost 40 goals a season for his last four campaigns. He hadn’t scored a goal in his last four games, but his loss will make it even more difficult for the three-win Devils to climb out of the Atlantic Division’s basement.

Parise will not play Monday against the Canucks and there is no timetable for his return.
