Crowds of Red Sox players are forming around the latest prospect, who’s been crushing balls into the stands. However, this prospect isn’t from Pawtucket or Portland — he’s only 6 years old. Little Victor Jose Martinez can often be found on the field before a Red Sox game, smacking hit after hit into the Fenway Park grandstands.
Ryan Kalish is one of Little Victor’s biggest fans, commenting that his swing looks “just like his dad’s.” Dad, of course, is Red Sox starting catcher, Victor Jesus Martinez.
Most players come out and cheer little Victor on, but he stays pretty serious in his stance, making sure to watch where each ball lands before squaring up for the next pitch.
Manager Terry Francona said that he loves having the kids around the clubhouse, saying it’s good for the kids and their fathers. While there may be some rules out there about children on the field, Francona says it’s one he doesn’t pay attention to.
“If we’re going to break a rule or two,” Francona said. “That will be one of them.”
Be sure to watch Little Victor’s entire performance below during Red Sox Gameday Live.
