Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas was watching Devils' forward Patrick Elias streak down the left side, creating a scoring attack with Ilya Kovalchuk during Saturday night's game in New Jersey. It was at that moment that Thomas got a little worried.
"When he passed it over to Kovalchuk, it was kind of uh oh time," Thomas told reporters after the game. "He made a move, and just by pure reaction I was fortunate enough to get a toe on it."
Thomas did more than stick his toe out for the Bruins in their 4-1 victory over the Devils. It seemed at times that the goaltender was standing on his head to prevent pucks from crossing the goal line, and he finished the game with 31 saves and his second victory of the season.
A humble Thomas credited his defense with doing great work in front of him by helping clear rebounds out of the Bruins' defensive zone to prevent second opportunities for the Devils.
