One of New England’s classic rivalries was in full form this afternoon. The 125th game in the Amherst and Williams series was today at Amherst.

After an exciting fourth quarter, Williams came out on top 31-16 to complete their perfect season.

Williams scored to open the quarter on a beautiful 33 yard pass from Pat Moffitt to Darren Hartwell. The opening drive consisted of eight plays for 91 yards.

Amherst responded three minutes later with an Alex Vetras touchdown pass to Will Reed.

But Williams shut the door on any possible comeback with another Moffitt touchdown pass, this time to JC Stickney.

Williams dominated the running and passing games with 180 and 326 yards in each respective category. Amherst struggled to get a running game going, they only rushed for 85 yards.

The game was much closer than the final score shows. Williams only pulled away from Amherst in the last five minutes.

This was the seventh undefeated season for Williams and its first since 2006.
