Professional athletes aren’t always the most intelligent folks. We know that.
Still, Channing Crowder is pushing that to new levels.
The Dolphins’ linebacker is known in New England for his on-field fistfight with Matt Light back in 2008. Though Crowder got kicked out of that game after literally sprinting away from the fight, he walked off the field with his arms raised above his head. He also had a much-publicized war of words with Jets coach Rex Ryan.
Yet, Sunday’s quote from Crowder immediately jumps to the top of the list of dumb things that the 26-year-old has ever done.
Crowder was mad that Ravens running back Le’Ron McClain allegedly spit on him during the game. This is what followed, according to the Dolphins’ official website:
“That punk Le’Ron McClain spit in my face. Write that down. He spit in my face. The referees told me they didn’t see anything, but I know what he did, and so does he.”
You’ll probably understand why the official site of the team left out this little part, which comes courtesy of The Washington Post:
“That’s some real ho [stuff]. So if you talk to him, tell him he’s a ho. And if he ever comes to Miami, he’s got to see me. … Then [the officials] said something about they let [Dolphins linebacker] Karlos Dansby get away with a facemask the play before. Who the [heck] cares? A guy just spit in my face! I don’t give a damn about Karlos pulling somebody’s facemask. Like they didn’t see [Dolphins quarterback] Chad Henne get hit twice when he slid.
“Yeah, a little Stevie Wonder and Anne Frank.”
Er … what?
“Who was that?” Crowder asked the assembled media, puzzled how Anne Frank got involved. “Is that the blind girl? Helen Keller … I don’t know who the [heck] Anne Frank is. I’m mad right now. … I’m not as swift as I usually am.”
Actually, Mr. Crowder, you seem like your normal self.
