The former and current Vikings star and former Patriot made his return to Foxboro, and any suspicions that he left on a sour note were sufficiently squashed as Moss shared hugs and chats with Robert Kraft, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady.
On his walk off the field after the Pats had won, Moss received a standing ovation — a gesture that caused the no-nonsense Moss to get a bit emotional.
"To the New England Patriots fans, that ovation at the end of the game, that really felt heart-warming. I think I actually shed a tear for that," Moss said after the game. "Like I said, it has been an emotional roller-coaster this whole week."
That was just a small piece of Moss' bizarre postgame commentary, which included tremendous praise of the Patriots and a healthy dose of criticism of the Vikings.
"The captains, [Vince] Wilfork, Tommy Boy, [Jerod] Mayo, Kevin Faulk — I miss those guys," Moss said. "I miss the team. It was hard for me to come here and play. … I just want to be able to tell the guys that I miss the hell out of them, every last helmet in that locker room."
Moss added that Belichick is the "best coach in football history" and offered him a salute … all while wearing a Red Sox hat.
Brady, in his weekly appearance on The Dennis and Callahan Show on WEEI, shared some of his feelings on his former teammate.
"Yeah, I certainly do," Brady said when asked if he misses Moss. "He's a very unique player, a very good friend of mine. We've shared a lot of very personal conversations together about things that are happening in our life, and that doesn't go away once he's on another team. I'm always rooting for him, hoping he does really well. It just happened this year that he moved on. It's just the way this league works now."
When you look at Moss' strong words and then consider the fact that he's on a 2-5 team with a rapidly aging quarterback in Brett Favre and a head coach in Brad Childress who may on the verge of getting fired, and then add in the fact that Moss had just one catch for eight yards on Sunday, and you have to wonder: Does Moss regret leaving?
