Savard isn’t quite ready to return to the ice for game action just yet, but he’s certainly close. He passed his last rounds of testing earlier in the week and he’s still gearing up for his return to come at some point in December.
When he does return, Savard will only help the B’s. His playmaking abilities have surely been missed. The Bruins jumped out to a quick start this season, but have recently come back to earth, a lot of that having to do with their offensive woes.
Savard’s return promises to help rid the team of those woes. He should provide a shot in the arm to a power play unit that has been inconsistent this season. Savard is widely recognized as one of the better players in the league with a man advantage and he will bring stability to the B’s power play.
Speaking of stability, Savard’s return — along with a couple of others — should start to shore up Claude Julien‘s lines combinations. All season, Julien has juggled his lines; mixing and matching and trying to find the best fit. With Savard being the most notable player out to injury, his return should help the Bruins get a better idea of what they’ll have offensively for the rest of the season.
Of course, just having Savard back will likely result in a boost of momentum in general for the Bruins. His aforementioned playmaking abilities will not go unnoticed, but his impact on team chemistry cannot be forgotten about. He’s a team leader and is liked by his teammates. He’s already getting back into the swing of things in that matter as well.
One thing is for sure — when Marc Savard returns, the Bruins will be a better hockey team.
