If you thought Bostonians didn't like New York, it's nothing compared to the disdain that Marcin Gortat has for The Big Apple.
The Orlando Magic backup center was asked what his thoughts were on playing in New York, in light of his team's upcoming road game against the Knicks. His response was quite surprising.
"The only thing I remember about New York is — it's sad — but it's terribly dirty," Gortat told the Orlando Sentinal. "And it smells bad, too. I'm sorry to say that, and I know New York fans will hate me probably. But it's an incredible city, great city, great fans. … I love the fans and I love the famous people. I remember my rookie year I was sitting in the second row trying to find as many famous people as possible. But now, the memories I got is it's just a dirty, dirty place."
Those are big words about a big city coming from a very big man — Gortat checks in at 6-foot-11, 240 pounds.
And if Gortat thought New York already smelled a little funky, he'll be in for a whirlwind of bad breath directed his way the next time he takes the court at Madison Square Garden. Fortunately for him, in a bizarre bit of good luck, Tuesday night's Magic-Knicks game was postponed due to asbestos falling from the ceiling.
Chances are, that won't help alter his opinion on The City That Never Sleeps.
