Report: Marlins Close to Signing Former Blue Jays Catcher John Buck

Many had speculated that if Victor Martinez were to leave Boston through free agency that Toronto’s John Buck would be signed as his replacement.

That doesn’t seem particularly likely anymore, as the MLB’s only Wyoming native is close to signing a three-year deal with the Florida Marlins, Ken Rosenthal reports.

Buck is a career .243 hitter in his seven years in the majors with Kansas City and Toronto, but he hit a career best .281 with an .802 OPS last season with the Jays and even played in his first All-Star Game.
