Tom Brady led the Patriots to an impressive road win over the Steelers, but he told The Dennis and Callahan Show that football can’t be all smiles.
While leading 10-3, Brady berated his teammates on the sideline and yelled at players and fans throughout the game.
“I don’t think you’re a going to have a good football team if everyone’s in a happy mood all the time,” Brady told the radio hosts. “There are guys that are very edgy, and we have plenty of those guys on our team — especially our coach and our offensive coaches are the same way. We’re just trying to win the game.”
Brady also explained that his teammates didn’t take offense to his actions.
“They know me very well,” Brady said. “My emotions go up and down and so do theirs. They say things back to me. I want them to know, and they do know, it’s all in the best interest of us trying to accomplish our goals each week. There’s nothing personal out there toward anybody. There’s plenty of times when they want to scream at me.”
Brady’s fire may have eased the pain in his foot, as the quarterback didn’t seem to be affected by a foot sprain.
“You get the adrenaline going, it helps a lot,” he said. “There’s a lot of people dealing with stuff. Every guy on our team is nicked up.”
On Sunday, the Patriots will play the Colts in Foxboro to continue one of the best rivalries of the past decade.
“The difficult thing about them is their style of defense, and there’s only one team that plays it, and that’s them,” Brady said of the Colts’ 4-3 base defense. “It’s not like playing a 3-4 defense. This is by far the fastest, quickest defense in the league. Two of the most dynamic pass rushers in the game [Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney, who have combined for 13 1/2 sacks this season]. They do a lot of things well.”
The Patriots have gone 7-5 against the Colts during the Tom Brady era, but the Colts have won the last two meetings.
