Adrian Gonzalez was the biggest name rumored to be switching teams on Saturday, but another first baseman is on the move as well.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed Lance Berkman to a one-year contract on Saturday, according to the team’s Twitter account.  Berkman will likely play left field for the Cardinals in 2011 thanks to the presence of Albert Pujols at first base.

Berkman had spent the first 11-plus years of his big league career as a member of the Houston Astros before being dealt to the New York Yankees last July. “Big Puma” primarily served as the Yankees’ designated hitter, and hit just .255 with one home run in 106 at-bats in New York.

The Pirates, Blue Jays, and Athletics were also known to have shown interest in Berkman.
