Despite conflicting reports about the health of his hamstring this week, Steven Gerrard has experienced no setbacks in his recovery.

Reds manager Roy Hodgson told the LFC website that the Liverpool captain has not re-aggravated his hamstring injury as was reported earlier in the week. Hodgson instead said that Gerrard is still on pace to return next Saturday, when the Reds will take on Newcastle United.

“There's no problem with Steven," said Hodgson. "It turned out that he just tweaked a bit of scar tissue … the medical people had a look at him and said it was nothing.”

"It's not a setback to his planned comeback and he should be fine."

Gerrard has not played in two-and-a-half weeks since suffering a hamstring tear while playing for England’s national team .
