There's a clear message coming from the Denver fan base — an astronaut in space could see the "Fire McDaniels" signs being held up during home games — and watching their team drop 16 of 21 under McDaniels' guidance has become too much for Broncs fans to bear.
Spygate II didn't help McDaniels' image in Denver at all. He may not have been the driving force behind the incident, but it was his recommendation that brought Steve Scarnecchia to the Broncos' organization, and you can bet that point will be raised when determining his fate next season.
A win this weekend for McDaniels is completely necessary, but it will also be difficult. The Chiefs are on a two-game win streak and are 5-0 at Arrowhead Stadium, outscoring their opponents 138-67 at home. The Broncos, on the other hand, are on a two-game skid heading into a game that determines their slim playoff hopes.
Whatever the outcome, it seems that McDaniels' days in Denver are numbered and rightfully so. If Bowlen wants to get back to the winning ways of the John Elway years, his first step should be shaking up his coaching staff.
