Fan Forum: Bruins' Win Over Penguins Will Serve As Season Turning Point If Team Stays Hungry If you felt that gust of wind rolling through Boston on Monday night, it wasn’t the incoming nor’easter, it was the collective sigh of relief coming from Bruins fans after the team posted a come-from-behind win over the Penguins in the final four minutes of play.

It could have easily been a gust of outrage, one that has become all too familiar in Boston. Pulling out of Pittsburgh with a 4-2 win was a huge boost for the B’s, since they were looking into a dark tunnel of frustration after the overtime loss to Montreal on Saturday. The win was a bright spot in the B’s dreary January, but they’re not out of the dark yet.

We’ve felt this rush of elation from the Bruins already this season. Just before Christmas, the B’s posted an uplifting victory over the Atlanta Thrashers — complete with a line brawl — that was regarded as a turning point after a 1-3-1 stretch midway through the month. Just three weeks later, however, the team was in a similar, frustrating position with the fans crying for someone to step up.

The Bruins did step up, posting a come-from-behind win over the Penguins on Monday night proving that there’s still life and leadership in their locker room. However, it’s how they carry this momentum into their upcoming four-game homestand that will prove their lasting power in the league.

Maintaining the hunger displayed during those final minutes in Pittsburgh is what the Bruins need this season. And if they keep that desperation alive in the second half, then Monday night’s shocking victory will serve as the turning point of a very successful season.
