Boston College landed a potential future star in cornerback Albert Louis-Jean.

Some might argue that it’s not exactly going out on a limb to predict Massachusetts’ top-ranked recruit (according to rivals.com) is going to have a stellar career with the Eagles. But in this case, Louis-Jean has more than just his high scouting ranking working in his favor. The four-star accolades, however, don’t hurt.

ESPN’s Scouts Inc. ranks the former Brockton ball hawk as the No. 9 cornerback in the nation.

Louis-Jean, a 6-foot-1-inch, 175-pounder, initially committed to play for the University of Miami but backed out when coach Randy Shannon was dismissed by the Hurricanes.

Louis-Jean, who built a relationship with Shannon, cited his firing as the reason behind his de-commitment, according to The Boston Globe.

“It came down to the fact that there wasn’t enough time to get to know the new [coaches] in Miami,” Louis-Jean told the Globe. “So it was either Penn State or BC. BC being close to home and the relationship I’ve built with the coaches for the past two years pushed it over the edge for me.”

BC coach Frank Spaziani and crew did well to create a confortable environment for the Brockton native, making the choice an easy one.

Louis-Jean has joined the growing trend of top recruits finishing high school early and enrolling in their prospective schools for the winter semester. This allows the student-athletes to begin offseason conditioning workouts and participate in spring practices with the team while adjusting to collegiate life. When the Eagles formally begin practices in August, Louis-Jean will be well-prepared.

In his senior season with Brockton, Louis-Jean led the Boxers with 60 tackles and five interceptions. He also finished with 600 yards receiving and five touchdowns. His speed and ball skills make him a prime candidate to return kicks for the Eagles as well.

Scouts Inc.’s Billy Tucker said Louis-Jean “has a lot of physical tools to develop in Chestnut Hill and should be one of the more athletic defensive backs on the Eagles’ depth chart as soon as he arrives on campus. He should excel in BC’s zone schemes with his good closing burst and physicality.”

Given Louis-Jean’s raw talent, history of finding the ball and the comfort factor that comes from playing just minutes from home, it’s hard to disagree.
