According to Joe McDonald, Savard will be shut down for the remainder of the 2010-2011 season.
Savard sat out the first two months of the season and training camp to recover from the post-concussion syndrome, an injury that came from a blindside hit by Penguins’ Matt Cooke on March 7 of last season. However, after returning on Dec. 2, he suffered another concussion on Jan. 22, his second in less than a year.
Prior to the All-Star weekend, the team sent him home to rest and recover, but after further tests, they concluded that he will not be returning again this season.
General manager Peter Chiarelli last week spoke of his injury and hinted at him joining the long-term injured reserve.
“With the time between concussions, and with the severity of the concussion [last March], and the time between when he basically stopped having concussion symptoms, [shutting him down] is certainly something you would have to consider.”
This season, Savard played only 25 games and scored two goals, eight assists and posted a minus-7 rating, not nearly reminiscent of his healthy campaigns with the Bruins.
