Mark Teixeira Not Leaving New York, Despite Albert Pujols Trade Rumors

Because the Cardinals failed to sign Albert Pujols to a contract extension on Wednesday, rumors are already swirling as to where the best player in baseball will be playing next season, with New York being floated around as a possible destination.

According to ESPN.com, however, the Yankees have no plans to look into acquiring Pujols, and Mark Teixeira is making it clear that he is not leaving New York anytime soon.

"I'm not going anywhere," Teixeira said. "I got that no-trade for a reason. I'm going to be buried in these pinstripes. You know what, I would be disappointed if the fans of New York weren't looking to make our team better, but they've just got to know I'm not leaving."

Despite the highest payroll in baseball, the Yankees could afford to bring in Pujols, but it's a move that is unnecessary with Teixeira at first.

Last season, Teixeira had a .256 batting average, the lowest mark of his career, along with 33 home runs and 108 RBIs. The switch-hitter also earned a Gold Glove at first base.

On the other hand, Pujols had a .312 batting average, which was a career low, along with 42 home runs and 118 RBIs. He won the Gold Glove award at first base as well.
