Since the Red Sox’ current ownership has taken over, Fenway has undergone some radical, yet tasteful changes to keep the aging stadium from crumbling, as some other MLB stadiums have.
The most radical change, as most Sox fans will agree, was the addition of seats above the Green Monster, which gave a unique perspective never before seen at Fenway. A right-field roof deck was constructed, resulting in roughly 3,000 new seats, increasing capacity to 37,402. In addition to the more noticeable changes, the clubhouse was revamped and the front offices given a makeover, creating a modern, yet refreshingly vintage look.
The ten-year improvement cycle, chronicled on redsox.com, will be completed at the end of this offseason when the new jumbotron is introduced. The high-definition monitor will be one of three installed, and will be the largest, measuring 100 feet wide by 38 feet high. This should ensure that all the replays of Carl Crawford‘s stolen bases will be seen in crystal clear HD.
Other renovations this winter included a new ticket window at Gate D, as well as upgrades to the concessions and concourses.
The New York Yankees will be the first opposing team to check out these changes, as the Red Sox kick off their season April 8 against the Bronx Bombers.
