On the official athletic site of the University of Alabama, TideTV streamed a live feed of the fax machine that receives athletes’ national letters of intent. Each time a letter was received, the player’s last name was posted on the fax machine, in Crimson colors, of course.
Despite the fact that most players decide where they are going before signing day, last-minute decisions can leave a program reeling. National letters of intent make everything official, and fans want to be a part of the excitement surrounding the new class of athletes.
Some buzz surrounding the fax cam may have had to do with the fact that the woman receiving the faxes wore an exceptionally short skirt with slits on both sides. Spencer Hall of SB Nation’s “Every Day Should Be Saturday” tweeted Wednesday that a “spy” told him Alabama specifically chose that woman wearing that attire with the fans’ experience in mind.
They say football is a religion in the South, but this is certainly an interesting take on signing day. While watching the fax cam may not be everyone’s idea of a fun time, the anxiety of waiting for official confirmation from athletes who have verbally committed is enough to keep away boredom for some.
