John Lackey Expected to Increase Workload in Second Start of Spring Against Orioles John Lackey will be on the mound for the second time this spring when he leads the Red Sox into a matchup with the Baltimore Orioles on Monday at home.

The big right-hander got his feet wet in a two-inning effort against Atlanta last Wednesday. He surrendered four hits — one a solo homer — in that outing. Lackey figures to get three innings of work this time out, maybe four if he is efficient.

Lackey threw primarily fastballs in that start. He said he will try to vary his arsenal a bit more this time out, but will continue to pump in four-seamers in an effort to build up his arm strength.

Dan Wheeler, Randy Williams and Kyle Weiland are among those scheduled to appear in relief.

Boston is 3-5 (with one tie) on the Grapefruit League slate after a 6-5 loss to the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie on Sunday.
