Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli is no stranger to seeing one of his guys laying on the ice as the result of a big hit. The B's GM saw it with both Patrice Bergeron and Marc Savard.
So it's not surprising that, while he continues to defend Zdeno Chara in the aftermath of his hit on Max Pacioretty, Chiarelli can relate to the feelings of anger coming from Canadiens fans.
"We've seen very serious injuries here, so I feel a little more sensitive to it. Chiarelli said on this week's The Big Bad Bruins Show in reference to the Bergeron and Savard injuries. "I know how [Canadiens fans] feel. … It's an emotional thing."
That said, Chiarelli still saw the hit as an unfortunate result of a fast-moving game coming at an unfortunate place on the rink.
Chiarelli also said that in talking to Chara, it was clear to him that the big defenseman certainly wasn't trying to injury Pacioretty, something he stressed to Chiarelli repeatedly.
