You don’t get the opportunity to cross home plate at Fenway Park for a good cause very often.

On May 22, you’ll have that chance as part of the Red Sox’ 2011 Run to Home Base, a fundraising event that supports veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan who are suffering from combat stress or traumatic brain injuries.

Only 2,500 spots in the 9K race are available. Register to run at RuntoHomeBase.org.

Last year, the event raised $2.4 million for the Home Base Program.

See what Red Sox manager Terry Francona had to say about the cause here.
