Big Ten Pondering Paying Cash to Student Athletes

"Forty years ago, you had a scholarship plus $15 a month laundry money," Big Ten president Jim Delany recalled. "Today, you have the same scholarship, but not with the $15 laundry money."

Accordingly, Delany is considering a proposal that would pay Big Ten athletes cash — between $2,000 and $5,000 for living expenses such as clothing.

The money for such payment would come from the over $20 million in revenues each school is garnering from the Big Ten Network.

The discussion, of course, comes in the midst of the ongoing investigations of the Ohio State football program and head coach Jim Tressel.
