Dan Wheldon became the ninth driver to become a multiple winner of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday after the leader, 23-year-old rookie J.R. Hildebrand, crashed in the final turn of the race.

Hildebrand had taken over as leader from Belgium's Bertrand Baguette with under 10 laps to go, and he looked set for the victory before hitting the wall in the final turn. Even with the crash, his wrecked car finished just mere moments after Weldon's.

Danica Patrick led the race with 15 laps to go, but she was forced to pit and finished 10th.

Wheldon last won the race in 2005.
