Maxi Rodriguez exploded for two hat tricks in the latter months of the 2010-11 Premier League season, but even so, he doesn't appear to be part of the club's future, with Kenny Dalglish targeting Stewart Downing, among others, to take over duties on the wing.

Accordingly, the 30-year-old Rodriguez is hoping to return to his boyhood club, Newell's Old Boys, in Argentina.

Maxi has always planned to return at some point, and the time appears to be now, according to Goal.com.

"When I left here, I knew I was coming back," said Rodriguez

"The president [William Lorenzo] called me and I said yes. Now it depends on the contract I have in Liverpool, maybe that can be loosened a little."
