Derek Lowe will never be forgotten for his role in the Red Sox' 2004 World Series run. In his 2003 team's quest for the "Red Sox Showdown for the Ages," he's coming up just as big.

In the second game of the finals of the WhatIfSports.com simulations, Lowe pitched the '03 team to a 9-4 win over the 1946 team. The win gives the '03 crew a solid 2-0 series lead in the best-of-seven final series.

Lowe didn't have a great line — he gave up four runs over eight innings due largely to seven walks — but he got the outs he needed when he needed them most.

Lowe also got help from Trot Nixon, who after driving in two runs in Game 1, continued his hot hitting in the second contest by driving in three more runs. He got help from David Ortiz, who drove in another pair of runs after homering in Game 1.

Be sure to check back on Sunday for the results to Game 3, and get more information on Game 2 and the entire tournament by visiting WhatIfSports.com.
