Brazil, Argentina Face Early Exits From Copa America

For the first time since 2001 and second time since 1995, Brazil will not be Copa America champions — or runner up for that matter.

After a fiercely contested matchup with Paraguay, the mighty Brazilians were defeated in penalty shots and no one seemed more shocked than Paraguay's head coach Gerardo Martino.

"Brazil should've won after 90 minutes. Sometimes we get these results. We played entirely differently from how we wanted to play," Martino told ESPN.com.

It's the first time since 1989 that Paraguay has reached the semifinals.

The host country and other South American soccer super power Argentina also had an early exit, losing to Uruguay in a penalty shootout. Uruguay will take on Peru in the semifinals, while Paraguay will take on fellow semifinal surprise, Venezuela.
