Soccer defenders are a rare breed. Much like their hockey counterparts, the defender's sole job is to do everything they can to keep the ball out of the net.

And in the mind of John Terry, that includes flying kicks to the face.

In a friendly match over the weekend against EPL club Portsmouth, the Chelsea skipper did his best to clear a bouncing ball heading toward his goal. As he tried to get his boot on it, Terry connected squarely with Luke Varney's kisser. After a moment on the ground in typical soccer fashion for both players, Terry apologized and play resumed.

As far as flying kicks on the pitch go, Terry's latest attempt still rates behind the one Abou Diaby delivered on him and the infamous Eric Cantona flying kick to a hooligan.
